"Our family is trying to be as sustainable as possible in our suburban home. We save energy where we can, we compost our scraps for our vegetable garden and we are looking into getting a rainwater tank. To reduce our carbon footprint, we installed a small solar power system and solar hot water and now we are making big savings on our power bill.

I researched the solar market for six months before deciding to go with Ingenero. I was drawn to them because they sell excellent quality inverters and panels, and they back them up with a 10 year warranty that includes workmanship, as well as a 25 year output warranty on the panels. I have an SMA inverter, which was voted one of the top five in the world. When friends want to buy low quality solar systems I try to talk them out of it! I ask them what they are going to do if they go wrong in a couple of years. Ingenero's solar consultant listened to me and answered my questions, without being pushy. The installers were brilliant, taking time to explain everything in detail. I couldn't have asked for a more professional organisation.

"I put in solar power and solar hot water because I wanted to help the environment and because I like to save a dollar or two," says Ken. "I haven't paid for electricity since the feed-in meter was installed about 18 months ago, so I'm more than delighted." Helen followed Ken's lead in installing solar on her neighbouring unit. "When Ken started to research it, I was eager to go solar too. Financially, it's been a blessing." Helen credits her grandfather with instilling in her an ethos of avoiding waste and looking after the planet. She is very careful with her power use and sells as much solar power as possible into the grid. Electricity bills are now a thing of the past; Helen is now paid by her electricity provider.

Michael Hoskin is a trainee teacher from Coolum who, for the last six months, has been a little worried. You see, since he has had his solar panels installed by Ingenero, he hasn't had to pay an electricity bill. 'I've kept all the records,' he said, 'I keep thinking what kind of mess have we made here.'Ingenero's solar designers are trusted by some of Australia's largest organizations as well as state and local governments, using systems designed for maximum power output, which is why Michael hasn't had to pay a bill in the last six months. Michael said the installation was hassle-free, although he did have to remove some branches that were creating shade issues on the panels.'I didn't like doing it,' he said, 'but I was told it would be better for the system.'
